Animation Introduction
Course Overview
During this course, BAFTA award-winning animator Kevin Griffiths will show you how animation works, introducing you to some basic animation techniques: drawn, model and cut-out animation. Kevin will demonstrate how to put together a short animated sequence using cut-out animation and give you practical exercises to help you produce your own short clip.
This course has been subsidised by The Film and Video Workshop to encourage and support filmmakers.
Course Outcomes
Upon completing this course, you will:
• Know how to set up iStopMotion on a computer with an animation camera
• Know how to capture basic stop motion animation
• Know how to animate
• Know how to put together a short animated sequence
Lesson Structure
Part 1 How animation works • Introduction to drawn, model and cut-out animation
Part 2 How to set up equipment for animation • Demonstration: capturing, basic editing and adding sound effects
Part 3 Practical exercises: constructing simple characters and backgrounds, animating, editing clips, adding sound effects and music, voice recording and adding credits
Entry Requirements
No previous animation experience is necessary. Students should be fluent in English.
Tutor
BAFTA-winning Kevin Griffiths has many years of experience working with stop frame animation. He has directed three series of 'The Old Bear', 'Bob the Builder' and 'El Nombre'. Kevin is an accomplished puppet maker and puppeteer and is an expert in building models using armatures and aluminium wire.
