Animation Bursaries 2008
In conjunction with the Esmee Fairbairn Foundation and the London International Animation Festival we were very proud to announce the winners of our inaugural animation bursary award.
Eleanor Farnham, Michaela Nettell and Gemma Burditt are the lucky recipients of the awards and all animators finished their films.
The winners all won £1000 towards the production of their films plus £500 equipment costs and mentorship from one of our talented pool of animation professionals.The films were be made at home and at the Film and Video Workshops studio space during the course of 2008 and early 2009 and were premiered at the London International Animation Festival.
The 3 judges of the award were: Suzanne Deakin (Slinky Pics), Layla Atkinson (Trunk Studios) and Nag Vladermersky (London International Animation Festival).
The films chosen are a mixture of subject matter, genre and techniques.
We’re All Off to the Seaside, (Eleanor Farnham), is a mixed media film made from animation, film footage and text exploring the ways we embrace the British seaside.
The Pound, (Gemma Burditt), an animated documentary, is a look at a world where old people are rounded up and kept in a granny pound, somewhere like Battersea Dogs Home.
Under Skies, (Michaela Nettell), is an exploration of memory, imagination and perception using photographic imagery and fluid, reflective surfaces such as water and glass.
