Stop Motion Club

Course Overview
Age Group: 10 to 16 years old

If you have always wondered how they make Wallace and Gromit, Creature Comforts, Bob the Builder, etc. This course is the one for you!

Who is it for?  This club is for any young person interested in exploring 3D animation techniques, or as a continuation after completing the Saturday Club in Traditional Animation.  No previous experience is required.

What will I learn?  In this special animation club you will create your own puppet using an aluminium wire armature and clay.  Then you will work in a group to create a short film using 3D-stop Motion animation. You will learn to how to create a storyboard, make animatics, built a colourful 3D set and then how to film with puppets.

During the last session you will create a soundtrack for your film.               This club is a great opportunity for you to work with a professional Director/ Animator and Puppet Maker on how space, timing and movement are used when animating puppets in a 3D set.     Every week you will see examples of professional films made using these techniques.

You will also have access to TV puppets and practical demonstrations. Led by BAFTA awards winning Kevin Griffiths (CRB Checked) with the support of volunteers interested in developing their skills in the creative industries. Kevin is an Animator director who has worked on commercials pop promos and numerous children's television programmes over the last 20 years. Some of his work includes: "Old Bear Stories", "Bob the Builder", "Mouse house" and "El-Nombre". He has more recently been heavily involved in television puppetry both as a puppet operator and puppet maker the most recent programme being " The Fimbles" BBC and " Ni Ni Tree-house" for GMTV.

Tutor
BAFTA-winning Kevin Griffiths has many years of experience working with stop frame animation. He has directed three series of 'The Old Bear', 'Bob the Builder' and 'El Nombre'. Kevin is an accomplished puppet maker and puppeteer and is an expert in building models using armatures and aluminium wire.
