Craft of Editing

Course Overview
The aim of the course is to give you a greater appreciation and understanding of the craft of editing and the role of the editor. With an historic perspective and using a hands on approach, you will be guided through the creative process including the importance of structure and story telling, the language and grammar and music and sound effects.

Course Outcomes
Upon completing this course, you will:
• Understand the role of the editor
• Understand the usage of language and grammar in editing
• Have learned different approaches to editing drama or documentary
• Understand the role of music and sound
• Understand timing and the use of effects
• Have gained a better understanding of structure and storytelling
• Know how to put together a shot sequence.

Entry requirements
Students should be Mac or PC literate and fluent in English and have a good understanding of Final Cut Pro.
