We are looking for volunteers here at the Film and Video Workshop. The placements will be for four months starting on the 18^th October 2010. We would expect the volunteers to spend two days per week helping the company, hopefully both on the same days. The preferred days would be Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday.

In return for your generous offer of time we will be able to give you the following.

Free access to all our courses
Studio space and equipment for you to work on your own projects
Travel and lunch allowance (up to £9 per day)

The work you will be helping with will include:

DVD production and editing
Administering our online shop
Booking students onto our courses and answering queries
Support work for the London International Animation Festival

In addition we will expect you to take on and develop an aspect of our business. This could be developing our animation bursary, membership services etc.

There will be regular meetings and support sessions to ensure the placement is going well and that you are supported during your stay with us.

Frequently asked questions

How much experience are you looking for?

As long as you have most of the essential skills and are keen and committed then you have good chance as we can teach you most things.

What will the interview be like?

It will be a chance for us to meet you and to ask questions about your experience. It will also be a chance for you to see what your placement will be like.

I understand there will be another volunteer, and am I expected to work with them, what if I don’t get on with them?

There will be an opportunity for you to work closely with the other volunteer and to share work conversely also you can both work quite separately.

You say we can work on our own projects what facilities can we use?

We have a number of camera and computers that can be borrowed. We also have a small animation space that can be shared exclusively with the other volunteer during the placement. This is available all week.

Will I have to have a police check

As we work in a school you will need to have a police check, this will take about one month and be confidential.

You mention we can take on our own projects, what do you mean by this?

If you have managed to deal successfully with your main tasks you can specialise in an area of the company you feel most interested in. With Tatiana’s help you can work on a specific aspect and try to improve it.

Do you provide references for your volunteers?

o We're happy to issue reference letters and certificates for our volunteers - let us know what your needs are and we'll do our best to accommodate you. We do not currently run any formal volunteering accreditation schemes.
